If I were existed | Youssef Ezzedine | Poetry

Youssef Ezzedine

Translated by: Aram Jaff

If I were existed

Maybe behind the meaningless

Metals

Meaningless of humans’ dance

Meaningless of tens of non-functioning prepositions

Hundreds of light words

If I were a weak sentence

Weak such as the fantasy’s birds

In the ashes of fireplaces

Weightless such as feather is taken by wind

Like those places and corners

That are possible to die

Maybe behind the nonexistent cloud

I were a sound drop without echoing

A strange, interesting, and wondering voice

Like the voice of superstitional beings

In the deepest places of stories

Or maybe in the center of the most endless

Soily road of time

If I were a wonder traveler

With a torn bag

With bare foot

If I were looking for the oldest world’s door

From there I would enter the coldest room

I would write

On my stone table

I would find myself looking at

Thousands of escaped words

hundreds of confused sentences

A load of flowers and wondered symbols

Seeing myself in front of the blurriest

Mirror of an age of strangeness

artificial leaves and sleepy branches

a mirror of a thousands pieces

at the surface of family trees of my kind

finding myself

within hundreds of stories of Satan

the view of prostitutes and businessmen

the poorest sea shell’s realm

the biggest pearl and the tallest bird

from there to look at one of the coldest rooms of existence

when I’m no there?!

If I were existed

Maybe behind the color of your eyes

I would be the most colorless creature

I would look like the oldest tree in a forest

When its birds for many years

would be asleep within the oldest book in the world

A book that the soul of its lands and soil

Such as an Ifrit

Within the smallest bottle of glass in the world

It’s captured?!

If I were existed

Maybe in the farthest island

Yet it’s not entered inside the stories

Unlucky immigrant

I would be the ugliest moments of time?!

If I were existed

Without an umbrella, I would walk under the rain and

I wouldn’t be wet

Carelessly I would walk on the streets

No fears;

I would stares at the Satan’s’ crying

Without inhaling

The deepest breath of sadness

Without shedding

The driest drop of tear

I would leave you?!

If I were existed

Like any human beings

I wouldn’t stop at some point of time

I wouldn’t dream of hundreds of

The falling down of the fall’s dream

I wouldn’t be born at the same moment

That I was born

I wouldn’t choose the same day of my death

If I were existed

I wouldn’t get to know you neither theirs or mine

Within the tragedy of thousands of

Ornaments, I wouldn’t climb them

My picture

I wouldn’t paint on the face of water

I wouldn’t mediate at the nonexistent streets’ trees

I wouldn’t look at the sadness of surroundings

I wouldn’t be mad at the stars

I wouldn’t send the flirting stanza to the moon

The old Sumerian’s carts

I wouldn’t bring down into the city’s streets

I wouldn’t write my stories in Hieroglyphic

Of course, if I were existed

I wouldn’t exist at any moments of this time

I wouldn’t walk at any its topographic of this place
